I came back to it about a year later and finished it, just to say I did. I got to Act 3 and said “why am I doing this? I want to play the game I ACTUALLY like!!!” So I quit D2 somewhere around the start of Act 3. I just felt like my character was green-screened in front of different backgrounds, endlessly doing the same things over and over and over again like some Dante-esque punishment.įrom then on, it was an absolute CHORE to log in just to finish Act 2.

It not only felt contrived, but I never felt like I was IN A WORLD. Or no no – an abandoned mine with an escape cart!! What is in act 3? A warehouse with boxes?

My chr was just an animated icon in the middle of the screen … with just different backgrounds behind it. And somewhere in the middle of Act 2, it just hit me. I dutifully got D2 when it was released, played through all of Act 1 and was … enjoying it.

I was actually IN A WORLD … with other people! Not just split screen, but we were in a WORLD … TOGETHER! I had just gotten into MMOs (Asheron’s Call) and it was the genre I had waited my whole life for (very young life, at that point). I’ll try something different: I’m one of the very, very, very few that DIDN’T like it, and I’ll tell you why. So, just statistically, most people here will tell you it’s a GREAT game and you should at least try it. It’s one of the most popular games of all time.
